Orthogonal Transport and Global Compatibility
I’ve spent years studying a strange and beautiful object: a perfectly symmetric combinatorial garden built from the 24‑cell. It’s not a physical place. It’s more like a primordial scaffold, a kind of pre‑spacetime architecture where every part fits together with crystalline precision. Inside that garden, I try to carry small packets of structured information from one location to another. Locally, the transport always works. Every small neighborhood behaves exactly as it should. The symmetry holds. The rules are obeyed. Nothing breaks. But the real question is whether the transport can survive the entire journey across the whole garden without contradiction. The Cosmic Fracture question.
The answer is no. Somewhere in that perfect symmetry, there is a fault. When I try to move the information all the way around the structure, certain exceptional regions force a flip. It’s not a mistake, and it’s not a failure of the rules. It’s built into the architecture itself. The garden refuses to let the transport remain globally consistent. That refusal is the obstruction. It means the garden cannot remain whole. It must fracture. Once the fracture occurs, the garden doesn’t collapse. It reorganizes. It breaks into clean, internally harmonious regions. Each region is perfectly compatible within itself, but the boundaries between them carry the memory of the break. Those boundaries are the scars of the original symmetry. They mark the places where the garden had to choose, where it had to distinguish one region from another.
This is the cosmic fracture. It is not an explosion, not a violent event, but a structural inevitability. A perfect scaffold that cannot support a single unified transport must divide into separate domains. Each domain is internally complete, but they cannot be sewn back together without reintroducing the original contradiction. The fracture is permanent. It is the first distinction. Only after this mathematical story is complete do I allow myself to read it physically. The garden becomes the primordial stage before spacetime. The fracture becomes the first meaningful separation. The domains become proto‑worlds. The boundaries become the memory of the break. But the physics is optional. The story stands on its own: a perfect symmetry that cannot remain whole, a forced partition, and the emergence of structure from the impossibility of global compatibility.

Those boundaries are where the unavoidable flips occur, and they mark the fault lines of the original symmetry. That’s the mathematical story. Everything else, cosmology, physics, interpretation, comes later. If I choose to read this structure physically, the garden becomes the primordial pre‑spacetime stage, the fracture becomes the first distinction, and each compatible region becomes a proto‑domain. But the physics is optional. The math stands on its own: a highly symmetric object that cannot support a single globally compatible transport and therefore must decompose into independent pieces.
